1. im looking to buy a pair of loafers to wear casually, any recommendations? thanks in advance

I am assuming that you want a season appropriate answer, so at $280, the APC suede calfskins are a steal compared to the overpriced pieces being pumped out by Car Shoe and Tod’s.  The Leffot Disco Penny is also another solid option that will keep you fresh throughout the summertime.

  2. I'm trying to upgrade and grab a nice pair of selvedge denim. Any suggestions, and what is your ideal measurements in respect to leg opening?

I typically suggest APC New Cure or Baldwin Henley, but because I was so blown away by photos of the Pure Blue Japan xx-011s after six months and a hot soak (pictured above), I have to take the time to suggest that you check them out.  I have no first hand experience with PBJ, but I have read some amazing reviews (those douchers over at SuFu are good for something, sometimes, I guess).  As per leg opening, I prefer purchasing jeans with a 15” opening and having them tapered to 14.5”.

  3. I know you're not the hugest denim-head, but what's the general consensus as to the best tailor for raw denim in the city? Need to get a pair of APC's downsized (tapered, etc.) and another, new pair straight-up hemmed. Chain-stitching not necessary but greatly appreciated.

The denim-heads will tell you 45rpm on Mercer, but APC themselves will recommend G&G Cleaners on Grand.  While G&G looks like the front to a Yakuza drug trafficking operation, I can say from first hand experience that they do great work and are very reasonably priced (though they do not chain stitch).

  4. What's your opinion on Selvage denim?

Wait, are you trying to tell me that there are people out there not wearing selvedge?  Trippy

  5. cbenjamin:

I got homies that work over at the Gilt empire that do great work, but this? Needing MegaBro power

This is so awful I’d rather just tell dude to meet me in a dark alley somewhere than to actually critique this mess.  On the real, though, I didn’t know APC had an Oil Slick Recipe in its Denim Washing Recipes guide.

  6. I've been interested in a mid-grey donegal blazer. Do you have any suggestions for an entry level option (sub $300)?

Donegal at sub-$300?  That’s a tall order, homie—CBenjamin seems to have a real good grasp on things of that nature.

But if you want my opinion, I think your best bet is to wait for A.P.C.’s 30-50% off in November and cop that good good.  Not sure if A.P.C. actually uses Magee of Donegal for their tweeds, but this shit is handsome as fuck.  Oh, and A.P.C. has been vanity sizing real hard lately, so make sure you size down when the time comes to make the purchase—it would suck to keep your eye on a medium for like a month, click “submit” and wait 5-7 business days only to find out that the blazer doesn’t fit and that A.P.C. is all out of smalls.

  7. While I enjoy rolling my pants as much as the next guy, rolling them this high will cause those around you to start rumors that you are unemployed and still receiving hand-me-downs from your older brothers.
If your pants, especially raw denim, are too long to execute a proper roll, take them to the tailor.  For selvedge, APC suggests G&G on Grand Street (for those of you who are in NYC).  I #cosign that recommendation, even though it just looks like an average, run of the mill drop-off service wash-and-fold joint.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
